This bench was designed in the late 1960s by Dutch designer Friso Kramer for Wilkhahn.

I have carefully restored the piece without altering its originality: it has been fully cleaned and the aluminium frame and seat surface have been polished. No further repairs or repainting have been carried out. The bench is in outstanding condition.
It forms part of a modular seating system originally developed for public waiting and transit areas, and was used for many years in train stations, airports, and similar environments. The seat shell is made from glass-fibre reinforced polyester and rests on a lightweight yet durable aluminium frame. Today, the model is considered a sought-after collector’s piece, admired for its clear lines, industrial materiality, and its timeless presence in both private and public interiors.

This orange version was used at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, where it became a design icon of its era. During those Games, a tragic terrorist attack occurred: on 5 September 1972, members of a Palestinian terrorist group stormed the quarters of the Israeli Olympic team in the Olympic Village, killing two members and taking nine hostages.

Provenance: Originally part of the office furnishings of the former Lower Austrian provincial government.
